“The Boyana church mural paintings are worthy of world cultural heritage. As I conceived the idea, compiled and edited the text, this publication became a labor of love, and a dream come true. This larger edition features high-quality images and brief analyses of famed art historians and experts in medieval paintings. I wanted to present the extraordinary qualities and the Renaissance spirit of these works of art. After an arduous journey and relentless persistence in overcoming obstacles, the surge of emotions at the sight of the first printed photographs was overbearing. The masterpieces of the Boyana Master emerged from the dim light of the church and shone in all their splendor. In the last few years, I poured over books and tirelessly conducted in-depth research until I found the narrative of the outstanding art historian, Kiril Krastev, published in full as late as 2021. He most accurately, professionally, and convincingly analyzes the art of the Boyana Master. In addition, the invaluable, precise insights and professional assessments of the great historians and art experts Dr. Bogdan Filov, Andre Grabar and prof. Atanas Bozhkov, do justice to the remarkable photographs.
